FUN-damental Basketball Camp to be hosted at Disney’s Wide World of Sports

FUN-damental Basketball Camp announces a new camp concept at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, FL. From June 29 - July 3, 2008, young basketball players will be able to enjoy a one-week camp experience in the new Jostens Center, a 83,000 square foot indoor facility that can hold six college size basketball courts (50’ x 95’), scheduled to open at the sports complex in 2008.

The special package deal being offered will include hotel accommodations at one of Disney’s All Star Resorts or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, a 3-day pass to four theme parks, and the basketball camp program. Furthermore, Disney’s Wide World of Sports will be throwing a special party one evening, complete with food and entertainment, for the campers and their parents at Typhoon Lagoon.

Campers will participate four hours a day, in the familiar mix of basketball skill stations and contests, team games and inspirational speakers. The 5 to 1 camper/staff ratio that has been a hallmark of FUN-damental will continue at Disney.

While campers are involved in basketball, parents and the rest of the family may stay and watch their children, enjoy the theme parks, the hotel facilities, or other Disney attractions. The rest of the day, the entire family can be together. One of the drawbacks of a family vacation is that the parents often do not have any time for themselves. Besides quality basketball instruction, this program presents an opportunity for that.

Stu Maloff, President of FUN-damental Basketball Camp, Inc., began FUN-damental as a day basketball camp at Sports 'n Scoops in Fayetteville, NY, in 1992. Shortly thereafter, the camp moved to Morrisville State College, offering a resident as well as a commuter option. The camp opened in the Sports Mall in Deerfield Beach (FL) in 2003 and last year opened at Cazenovia (NY) College. Over the years, campers have come from 30 states and 20 countries. Maloff has a BS in Elementary and Early Secondary Education and a MS in Elementary Education; he taught in North Syracuse, NY, and is presently a teacher at Westchester Elementary School in Coral Springs, FL. He was Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at both Canastota (NY) and Auburn (NY) High Schools, Assistant Varsity Coach at Jamesville Dewitt (NY) High School, Basketball Director of Village of Manlius, NY, Recreation Department, Student Assistant Coach at New York's Plattsburgh State College, as well as coach at Golden Valley, Adirondack and Future Stars Basketball Camps.

Tom Blackford, Boys' Varsity Coach at Fayetteville-Manlius (NY) High School, is Director of the camp. He served as Boys' Varsity Basketball Coach at Hamilton (NY) High School, where he had 6 Sectional titles, 5 Regional titles, 5 trips to the (NY) State Final Four, 1 NY State Champ Runner-up in 2001, 2 NY State Championships - in 1994 and 2000, and was 3-time Coach of the Year.

FUN-damental Basketball Camp will donate $10 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for each registered camper.
